Introducing the Gerbera Daisy: Discovered in the late 1800s in South Africa, gerbera daisies have become one of the world’s most popular flowers, best known for their brilliant pigmentation. Found in thirty different varieties, the gerbera daisy symbolizes cheerfulness, innocence, and purity.
Why the bright colors? Gerbera daisies range in color for a number of reasons but most notably to attract pollinators to help the plant procreate. These color variations are induced by the presence of hormones within the flower, such as anthocyanin, chlorophyll, and carotenes. Through evolution and cross-pollination plant species can be distinguished into different varieties based on their colors. For us all of this means that we get an amazing variety of colors to choose from!
